Cohen New Works Festival
Lane served as the Associate Producer for the 2019 Cohen New Works Festival at the University of Texas at Austin, the largest student-produced festival in the United States. NWF 2019 ran April 15-19 and consisted of 30 pieces of dance, theater, music, art installations, and interactive performance.
“If you’ve written 13 operas and you’re here to write your 14th, that’s not necessarily what our goal is,” Stanley says. “But, if you’ve written 13 operas and you’re writing a solo piece, we’d program that.”
MUSICIAN AND ACTOR
Lane is a musician and actor with a preference for ensemble work. They have appeared in Men on Boats, Schoolgirl Figure, Twelfth Night, and 13 Dead Husbands at Cohesion Theatre Company; Henry IV, Part 1 at Baltimore Shakespeare Factory; and Taming of the Shrew and A Midsummer Night's Dream at Chesapeake Shakespeare Company. They prefer to perform with an instrument so they don't have to figure out what to do with their hands.
The video to the left was created for 13 Dead Husbands with Cohesion Theatre Company. It was done along with Nick Delaney, Lane's fiance who passed away on January 19, 2016.
FOUNDING ARTISTIC PRODUCER
Cohesion Theatre Company
In 2014, Lane founded Cohesion Theatre Company in Baltimore, MD, along with Brad Norris. Lane and Brad served as the Artistic Producers of Cohesion until 2017, when Lane left to pursue their MFA in Directing from the University of Texas at Austin.
In that time, Lane directly oversaw and produced Cohesion's ten main stage productions, four workshops, two special projects, and several readings. Lane also served as the Festival Director for ParityFest Baltimore 2015, a 6-week festival of staged readings from the Kilroys List.
Cohesion Theatre Company continues its mission to foster community and make space for marginalized voices. It is now run by Jess Rassp and Abby Cady. See what Cohesion is up to here.
TRANS-POSITIVE SPACES TRAINING
Lane has developed an interactive presentation on how to develop spaces that are truly inclusive of transgender individuals. The presentation covers vocabulary, diversity of the trans experience, pronoun use, current trans issues, resources for moving forward, and guidance on how organizations can hold themselves accountable. The presentation is tailored for each new organization, and so far has been given with great success at Imagination Stage in Washington, D.C.; Single Carrot Theatre in Baltimore, MD; the University of Texas at Austin's UIL Conference; and Baltimore Improv Group.
"[Lane] is a trainer of immense skill. They not only created gentle entry points to Trans inclusion but also provided a question and answer session I have seen impact organizational decisions and individual employees comfort working with employees and patrons of all genders. We are an organization with a mission to lift up the voices of all youth and thanks to Alice I have seen real change and movement to have those voices include the Trans community."
